Semarang, November 11, 2025 – The Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University, organized a Visiting Professor Program online via the Zoom platform as part of the institution’s commitment to strengthening internationalization through the World Class University (WCU) scheme. This program carried the theme “Women for Lasting Peace: Social Awareness on Women, Peace and Security and Gender in Conflict,” focusing on developing gender perspectives in international relations, security, and peace studies.

The program proposers, Ika Riswanti Putranti, S.H., M.H., Ph.D. and Nadia Farabi, S.Hub.Int, M.A., Ph.D., stated that this program emerged from the growing interest among students in gender studies, reflected in dozens of gender-related thesis topics over recent years and student advocacy movements for gender equality.

The event was opened by the MC at 09:00 WIB, followed by remarks from the faculty representative. The FISIP UNDIP representative, Nadia Farabi, S.Hub.Int, M.A., Ph.D., emphasized that this activity serves as a momentum to broaden students’ insights into global security dynamics from a gender perspective and to support graduates who are adaptive to international issue developments.

“The Women, Peace, and Security issue is not merely an academic topic but part of a global agenda to create inclusive, just, and sustainable peace. Through this program, students are expected to understand the realities of conflict and peacebuilding from gender and human rights perspectives.”

Afterward, the moderator gave a brief introduction regarding the speaker’s profile and the event’s theme. In the main agenda, Prof. Laura Shepherd presented material on the importance of gender perspectives in international relations studies and the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda. The discussion highlighted the importance of women’s involvement in peace processes, diplomacy, reconciliation, and post-conflict reconstruction, in line with the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) on Women, Peace and Security.

The material delivery was interactive and followed by a Q&A session involving active participation from the attendees. The event was closed by the moderator with thanks to the speaker and all participants, followed by a documentation session, group photo, and evaluation form filling.

This program is expected to strengthen Diponegoro University’s reputation in international benchmarks, such as the ratio of international lecturers and global research collaborations. With the successful implementation of this Online Visiting Professor program, the International Relations Department of FISIP UNDIP hopes to further affirm its commitment to developing feminist curricula and building gender-based social awareness in academia and research.
