Friday, October 7, 2022, the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro has held a Studium Generale with the topic of Middle East Political Configuration: Egyptian Perspective. This event was held Hybrid via Zoom platform and also took place in building B 304, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro from 13:00 GMT+7 to 14:30 GMT+7. The speaker for this public lecture was Mr. Mohamed Ali Mohamed Yousef, who worked as a lecturer at the United States Interglobal University.
This public lecture began with an opening speech by the Vice Dean I of FISIP Undip, Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol. then continued with the introduction of the lecture by the Middle East Studies supporting Lecturer, Dr. Sos. Drs. Muhammad Adnan, M.A.. This event was moderated by Mr. Muhammad Arief Zuliyan S.IP., LL.M.
The material given was about the dynamics of the Middle East political system. The speaker started his presentation by giving an overview of the Middle East geographically. Then the participants got an explanation regarding the importance of the Middle East including strategic, economic, religious and political interests. In addition, the speaker also spoke on the political system after the Arab Spring which changed the minds of some youths in the Middle East who were pro-democracy and some who were against democracy.
The presentation by the speaker lasted for one hour. After the presentation, the lecture continued with the opening of a question and answer session on the topic, one of which discussed the process of democratization in the Middle East and its relation to internal and external factors. The lecture went smoothly and was then closed by the moderator.
This studium generale was expected to be able to provide insight to academics regarding the dynamics and political developments in the Middle East region, as well as to exchange knowledge and information on issues that occurred in other parts of the world with a speaker who was indeed part of the Middle East.
