Indonesia’s Parliamentary Diplomacy Management for Security Stability in Southeast Asia
Indonesia’s parliamentary diplomacy plays a crucial role in maintaining security stability in the complex Southeast Asian region, particularly in addressing territorial disputes in the South China Sea and non-traditional threats such as terrorism and transnational crime. As a leading country in ASEAN, Indonesia—through the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP)—can engage more flexibly in sensitive issues that are often beyond the reach of executive diplomacy. Indonesian parliamentary diplomacy also actively participates in international forums such as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) to promote maritime security, human rights, and climate change action.
