Management of Indonesian Parliamentary Diplomacy for Security Stability in Southeast Asia

Management of Indonesian Parliamentary Diplomacy for Security Stability in Southeast Asia

Indonesian parliamentary diplomacy plays an important role in maintaining the complex security stability of Southeast Asia, especially in dealing with territorial disputes in the South China Sea as well as non-traditional threats such as terrorism and transnational crime. As the leader of ASEAN, Indonesia, through the DPR RI and the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), can engage more flexibly on sensitive issues that are difficult to reach by executive diplomacy. Indonesian parliamentary diplomacy is also active in international forums such as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) to strengthen maritime security, human rights and climate change.
