Correlating to the subject of International Maritime Crime, the Department of International Relations Universitas Diponegoro (IRUD) goes to Bea Cukai Tanjung Emas Semarang. This occasion was held on the 25th of October 2022 to provide new insights for the students into maritime crime through the perspective of the community protectors, Bea Cukai. The participants of the event were the fifth-semester students of IRUD batch 2020. They were accompanied by the supervisor, Ika Riswanti Putranti, SH, MH, Ph.D., Anjani Tri Fatharini, S.IP., M.A., and Muhammad Arief Zuliyan, S.IP., LLM. The students departed from UNDIP at 07.30 AM (GMT +7) by bus directly to the Bea Cukai Tanjung Emas office building. After the students arrived, they were immediately directed to the ballroom on the 4th floor to gain more knowledge through a brief public lecture.
Fobby Tri Sunarso, as Head of the investigation and prosecution sector, delivered the lectures by explaining the role of Bea Cukai as an organization that is highly associated with international trade negotiations such as Revenue Collector, Trade Facilitator, Industrial Assistance, and Community Protector. With the TNOC Bea Cukai, the object is divided into terrorism, IPR, CBCC, NPP, Forestry and Environmental Crimes, Crimes on Cultural Conservation Objects, and others included in KLN based on the law. As community protector, Bea Cukai manages to enforce the law and prevent the practice of transnational crimes such as drugs and smuggling. On the other hand, they also focus on export and import control to prevent illegal goods.
After the lecture ended, around 10.00 AM, the students went inside the bus and had their lunch while moving on their way to Tanjung Emas port. The students were highly attentive to the brief tour given by the officers of Bea Cukai from inside the bus. Continuing from the in-bus tour, the students had the opportunity to witness the process of export and import physical inspection at Terminal Peti Kemas Semarang (TPKS). To conclude the field study, a group photo was taken with all of the students and attendants. After that, they return to UNDIP to continue the learning activities.
This event has been a very eye-opening opportunity to learn better about how Bea Cukai not only revolve around the imposition of taxes on goods that entered Indonesia, but also they have to ensure that international trade in Indonesia runs smoothly and safely.
