On Monday, October 31, 2022, the Department of International Relations of Diponegoro University held a guest lecture session which was attended by International Relations students in the International Organization and Administration course. This guest lecture session was presented by Dr. Ketut Purwantoro, S.Pd., M.M. the founder of the Dejavato Foundation. This event was hosted by Anjani Tri Fatharini, a lecturer in International Relations at Diponegoro University, as a moderator. This session took place at the FISIP Auditorium on the 3rd floor of FISIP building A at 07.30 – 09.30 WIB.

NGOs became the main theme, especially the introduction of the Dejavato Foundation. At the beginning of the session, Mr. Ketut opened a discussion about the importance of NGOs in international relations, especially in the field of volunteerism. He describes the difference between companies and social entrepreneurs, where companies focus on profit and social entrepreneurs focus on the benefits generated for society. However, Dejavato’s position is somewhere in between. Furthermore, he mentioned the soft diplomacy by Dejavato which can be seen from their mission, namely to promote volunteer service, intercultural understanding, equality, tolerance, and world peace through volunteerism and internships.

After explaining the material for approximately 1 hour, there was a question and answer session about NGOs and volunteers which were answered comprehensively by Dr. Ketut, one of the discussions was about philanthropy. The presentation session was closed with the conclusion given by the moderator. Mrs. Anjani believes that NGOs play a complementary role to address social problems such as education, human rights, and environmental conservation. In addition, NGOs have a role to advocate for certain issues such as animal protection. Therefore, the presence of NGOs cannot be underestimated in international relations as one of the actors who have a big role.
